Matthew 8:27
This title, this verse, speaks to the holiness, power and complete trustworthiness of Jesus. And to the fear, doubt and utter lack of faith in me. If all of nature responds in obedience to the sound of His voice then why don’t I? My attention is drawn to what seems an impossible circumstance, when the Creator of all heaven and earth rubs the sleep from His eyes and asks, “Why are you so afraid?” If I really knew Who it is that is with me I would know that not “even the wind and waves” are any match for Him. When the waves crash over me until I am drenched to the bone, and the wind howls so loud I can’t even hear my own thoughts, I would do well to remember that all of nature is subject to His voice. That there is nothing that crashes or howls against me that He cannot calm in an instant, with a word, “Peace.” As He scratches his head in wonder at my lack of faith, shakes His weary head, and yawns His way back to the spot my fear woke Him from, I scratch and shake my own weary head and wonder, “What kind of God is this? Who stays with me in my storms, unaffected by their power, and calms my fear as He calms all that comes against me.”
